Exploring the Rock River

9/24/2014

Today RCAA students explored the Rock River to find examples of humans helping and hurting nature.  It was a brilliant morning for a short walk.  Today was also our spirit day to dress like country folk.  Yay for jeans, braids, boots, and plaid!

Teach Like a Pirate

Ahoy! Today was national talk like a pirate day.  Mr. Jobb made it the whole morning doing so, and nearly lost his voice.  It was also election day around RCAA.  Two officers and three representatives were elected to student council after our assembly this morning.  All candidates did a wonderful job giving speeches. We are proud!

Exploring What Happens After "Nature Calls"

We are currently discovering what happens at the Sewage Treatment Plant by listening to our guest speakers.  It's a bit disgusting, but really interesting.  This will help us further answer our guiding question:  How does Beloit affect the Rock River?
Random side note:  I got a jelly donut from a student today.  I point this out to show how our students are the BEST.  We appreciate how our parents have raised such kind children.  I'm also pretty tickled to have my name on my door.  It just looks official, and an upgrade to the masking tape that I normally write my name on.

Here Fishy Fishy. . . .

Our fish dissections went swimmingly! We worked through the four phases of the project process, and this helped us learn how the production phase works.

Students also got FREE T-shirts from the RCAA governance board.  They're pretty spiffy!

We walked to the public library to get resources for our first projects.  New students took a tour, and old ones got straight to work.

Justin:  Good luck tonight in Madison playing football!

RCAA Games

Today was the first RCAA game day!  The amazing Mrs. Watson gathered materials, stole items from her poor husband's closet, and spray-painted trophies in preparation of an exciting event.  Fun was had by all.  More photos and video to come.

PS:  I know the slideshow is sideways for some photos.  I can't fix it!

Welcome Back

Woo hoo for a new school year!  Things have been a bit wild the last couple of days, but it's clear we're going to have a marvelous school year.  Your advisors (and a few students) were relaxing after 3:00, and someone noticed the chocolate covered bugs among Ms. Watson's critter collection.  Of course they were opened-- and eaten.  YUCK!  I refused to partake-- even when Tommy offered me five bucks.

Tomorrow is a noon dismissal day.  Don't forget to set up a ride home!
